ATPF Virtual Reality Program: Engineering Workshop Series
ATPF is proud to partner with Ian Miller, Director of the Interactive Media Institute and University of San Diego's STEM Outreach Club to run a NEW virtual civil engineering themed workshop series for teens! Each week they'll take on a different building challenge, like earthquake proof structures, weight bearing bridges, etc. USD Students will be assembling supply kits for each workshop that will be distributed by the ATPF team or available for pick up at the ATPF Office.
Have you ever wondered about the science and engineering behind the buildings and structures we see every day? What stops bridges from collapsing into the water when a heavy truck drives over? How do skyscrapers stay upright through earthquakes and heavy winds? Why don't cars fly off of roller coasters when taking a sharp turn? Please join students from the University of San Diego for some hands-on Zoom activities that explore different aspects of civil engineering and physics! You will receive a kit with all the materials you need to participate. You will also have the opportunity to socialize with the students via Zoom and ask any questions you have about the college experience. You may sign up for a single activity, but we'd love you to join us for all 4 sessions:
October 18th: Testing bridge strength
October 25th and November 1st: building paper roller coasters (this is a two day project, so you must sign up for both sessions)
November 8th: Building stable towers
